Summer, it’s time for Japanese green teas
Isn’t summer a great season? Long days, good weather, holidays, and… yes, time to taste and enjoy Japanese green teas. I love gyokuro tea in summertime! Why? Because their brewing temperature is not as high as the majority of other teas and they are perfect for cold brews. Ideal for the hot summer weather!
This year I got two Japanese green teas from NioTeas: Fukamushi sencha yamaga no Sato and Gyokuro Cha Meijin.
Fukamushi sencha yamaga no Sato has a round umami taste with fruity notes, which are enhanced when brewed cold. If you are new to Japanese green teas, this tea is a good start.
Gyokuro Cha Meijin is sweet, brothy, nearly creamy, and, at the same time, vegetal.

The teas come in beautiful packaging directly from Japan. Do not let this worry you though, you don’t need to learn Japanese. This is because information about the content and brewing method is also provided in English.

Nio Teas is specialised in Japanese teas, all of which are free of pesticides and come from sustainable production. They have a very interesting blog on their website and a YouTube channel where you can learn about Japanese teas and how to brew them (check the super useful video about how to regulate the water temperature without a thermometer).
And there’s more! Nio Teas shares all the information about the farmers and the farms which produce the teas. I love this because I think it is very important to know who is behind the teas we drink.
Being very hot this summer (even in the UK!), I skip the kettle and I cool off drinking these beautiful teas.
Why don't you try it with a Japanese sweet, like a mochi, or, if it's too hot, with ice cream?
Do you have a favourite summer tea? How do you brew it? Let me know in the comments!
